2024-03-22: La Habana del Este
Author: Rob
Our classic car ride took us through a tunnel under the bay to Castillo de Los Tres Reyes de Morro. This is a huge fortress built to protect Havana from pirate raids around the turn of the 16th to 17th century. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site and was obviously set up for people to visit it, but it was kind of eerily empty when we were there
To get back across the bay we took the Casablanca ferry, a locals only sort of thing that was supposed to leave every half hour but really only came by every hour and fifteen minutes or so. This deposited us right in the middle of Old Havana, which gave us an opportunity to walk through several plazas, grab lunch, and see plenty of old architecture.
